About Us - The History Behind The Hits

Adikanfo Radio(concept) began in 2003 as a campus online/shoutcast radio at the University of Life Sciences (UMB), previously Agricultural University of Norway (NLH), Aas. The station was then called Ike’s hitz Radio and streamed directly, using production PC as server to listeners (through Winamp with the Shoutcast source DSP and DNAS) without a relaying streaming server. In other words, the available bandwidth of our internet (upload capacity) were divided by the streaming bit rate to decide the number of simultaneous listeners per session.

The aim for the project was to broadcast to all possible listeners worldwide but due to the campus internet security and firewall settings (beyond our control and authority), it wasn’t possible for those outside campus to connect to our streaming services, making it intranet/campus radio.

The idea was thus abandoned somewhere in early 2005, after campus life due to the cost and time involved. However, with the advancement and rapid growth in the IT sector, relay server prices has drastically come down and internet connections/bandwidth highly improved with increased worldwide accessibility which decreases the running costs whilst increasing potential audience.

With the above developments, the idea was once again regenerated in 2011, when a friend who knew the CEO’s technological capabilities and interest for music made the request for one. The question then became the name of the station. Contemplation went around reusing the name from campus era station
